Pilar Albarracín (Seville) is one of the most established Spanish artists of her generation, recognised on the international art scene. In her multidisciplinary work (film, performance, installation, photography, craft), she combines social commitment and formal aesthetics. Condemnations of inequality and prejudice are juxtaposed with humour and colour.
She offers the public a multicoloured vision of Spanish culture. Pilar Albarracín is committed to preserving traditions, while aiming to ensure that they are better understood. She underlines the need to develop them through the lens of contemporary thought
For Fiesta, the artist is presenting several pieces, which explore the festive theme and different forms of celebration.
At the Maison Folie Moulins, Pilar Albarracín will show new works inspired by the mantón de Manila, the traditional Spanish shawl worn during celebrations. In this exhibition, she offers a humorous take on cultural heritage, ritual and stereotypes. She deconstructs the false moralism concealed behind clichés and fights against an essentialism that conceives identities as something static.
