Nikita Teryoshin

Espace le Carré, Lille
23 April - 6 July 2025

Nikita Teryoshin’s images plunge us into the intense, offbeat atmosphere of dancefloors under a viaduct in the Brussels conurbation or in the heart of a forest in the Belgian Ardennes. In his observations, the photographer witnesses a certain shift: here our conventional system gives way to another universe, one that only becomes apparent once the doors to the night have been opened.

In this exhibition, Nikita Teryoshin acts as an intermediary, introducing us to this world and offering us a gallery of colourful characters in wild, post-apocalyptic or futuristic settings. From hippie teuffers to cyber goths, young and old alike let loose in the swirls and under the lasers. In the deep of the night, as Psytrance, Deep house, Acidcore and Dub techno reverberate, the only rule they obey is to exult. Without distinction or judgement, they all form a community through their music.

Nikita Teryoshin’s photographs capture the energy of the live performances and fiery sets, conveying the sincere, peaceful atmosphere as much as the waves of transgressive, joyous pleasure. These nights are like precious islands for every body and every mind. Perhaps the ultimate territories of freedom in our modern societies?
