LaSécu – Espace contemporain in Lille invites you to plunge into the quirky, playful world of Philippe Katerine. A multi-faceted artist who is an actor, director, singer, composer and visual artist, he is constantly exploring new areas of expression, while maintaining his unique and highly personal tone in the French cultural landscape.
In 2020, the artist returned to the visual arts, which he had abandoned in favour of music. Confined to the countryside, he transformed his daily life into an infinite playground. In the kitchen, the garden or among his children’s toys, he composes with what surrounds him: sketches, portraits, salt dough modelling, ravioli in the shape of human heads, Scrabble letters laid out on a plate… Far from trying to create meaning, he has fun offering a fresh look at the world, by playing with simple and accessible materials.
This approach has given rise to the concept of ‘mignonisme’, a poetic and quirky trend that celebrates the aesthetics of the ordinary by blending pop influences, humour and a touch of subversion. LaSécu will host a range of playful and surprising works by Phlippe Katerine (drawings, gouaches, videos and more), offering a total immersion in his creative universe.
