For the new Fiesta season of lille3000, the Palais des Beaux-Arts in Lille has reached out to Felice Varini, known throughout the world for the captivating geometric shapes of his installations. Created specially by the artist inside the actual museum, three monumental works will transform visitors’ perceptions of several spaces, including the iconic Atrium.
“My works invite the spectator to enter the painting”
Felice Varini has been enchanting the public with monumental installations that create a dialogue with the surrounding architecture, since the late 1970s.
Each of his works takes shape from a specific viewpoint, where the geometric forms seem to magically create a perfect composition. But the experience doesn’t stop there: by moving around, you discover infinitely varying perspectives and interpretations, like many different facets of a transformed space.
Felice Varini’s most famous interventions include the Grand Palais in Paris (2013), Hasselt in Belgium (2014), the Cité Radieuse in Marseille (2016), the Cité de Carcassonne (2018) and his participation at international events, such as the Singapore Biennale (2008) and the Niigata Water and Land Art Festival in Japan (2009).
