The contemporary art centre Espace Croisé will be exhibiting MEU LUGAR NA RODA, a video-installation project by established artist duo Mauricio Dias and Walter Riedweg.
The project is inspired by the roda de samba, a tradition of African origin that developed in Rio de Janeiro and then became popular as a musical genre in its own right, where encounters and sharing are essential to musical creation.
Mauricio Dias is a regular participant in the ‘Samba à la Maison’ events in Montreuil, a group of eight Franco-Brazilian musicians coordinated by Roberto Moreno. He developed this project with Walter Riedweg, who documented these spontaneous musical encounters and offered a poetic interpretation. The wheel (roda) is both a metaphor, symbolising the dissemination of energy and the sharing inherent in creation, and an embodiment of the technical aspect of visual execution. The images are captured using a cameracycle, a device invented by the artists. The forms assert themselves and disintegrate into a visual translation of the melody.
The MEU LUGAR NA RODA installation invites the public to join in the samba roda, to dance, to immerse themselves in the heart of the Brazilian party!
