Oiseaux de nuit

LaM Vagabonde

La Condition Publique, Roubaix
23 April - 12 July 2025

The Oiseaux de nuit exhibition explores the party as a space-time in which bodies are transformed and imaginations emancipated. Like carnivals, popular festivals and parties of all kinds, it leads to the reversal of social roles and the emergence of counter-cultures. The night pours forth a stream of images, of which only a few fragments and recomposed memories remain. Between rituals and metamorphoses, bodies hybridise and agglomerate, leading to the emergence of shifting identities and the formation of new chimeras.

The exhibition brings together the work of ten artists from the same generation, living between Lille, Brussels, Marseille and the Paris region, and exploring a variety of media – drawing, painting, sculpture, installation, sound, etc. In direct response to the theme of the exhibition, these artists will be proposing new works or adapting a selection of existing pieces. Aïda Bruyère will present the initial results of her creative residency at La Condition Publique (2024-2025).

Conceived in collaboration with La Condition Publique, the exhibition is a reminder of the multi-faceted nature of LaM’s collection and its interest in cutting-edge creative work. In the light of its collection, the festival is approached as a social phenomenon in which the relationships between centres and margins are blurred and reversed, shaking up our normative frameworks and opening up new perspectives, both individual and collective.
